Texture + Tone

Lisa and Elish have a couple of room designs underway that are beautiful displays of texture and tone! All of the creams in one of the rooms come together beautifully to create a soft and very interesting palette. All of the different blues in the other room blend beautifully because of the different textures and patterns.

Stay tuned for pictures of these rooms later on as they start coming together!

We’re Speechless!

We are beyond flattered that Mr. Brown Home used a photo from one of our projects as their cover photo on Facebook!! The Pearl Chairs that we had covered in a rich Designers Guild green velvet and used in our bay at Mistletoe Marketplace are looking fab as the main image over on their page!

Just Because We’re In Mississippi…

13
AUGUST
2012

Have you ever wanted your house to have that SummerHouse look but were afraid it could never happen because you don’t live around here?

{( fear no longer )}

Just because our shop is located in Ridgeland, Mississippi does not mean we can’t help you make your home beautiful wherever you are! Our designers love a quick business trip just as much as they love design!

Elizabeth, one of our designers, actually just got back from a trip to Texas to present this beautiful project!

Thanks to the communication age in which we live, it was not a big deal for Elizabeth to get all the information she needed about the space, work up some ideas, then fly out to make her presentation!

SUMMERHOUSE CAN TRAVEL!

SummerHouse | Ridgeland, MS SummerHouse | Ridgeland, MS

If you’re interested in having a SummerHouse designer work with you, even if you aren’t from around here, then be sure to give us a call! We all love the chance to spread our wings from time to time!

Living in the Dark

Do you have a room in your house that needs something a little extra? May we suggest black walls… (But don’t put up any black paint before you consult a designer! Please!) A room with black walls is dramatic and full of personality, and is also a great new take on the neutral wall. Here are a few ideas of how to do black right. It’s really not as bleek as you’d think!

Thanks to LonnyMag and Rue for the great photos and ideas.

Do you have any black (or almost black) walls in your house? What color were they before? We want details!!

Behind the Scenes: Eastbrooke Photo Shoot

Y’all have seen this house before. It is our most dramatic Before and Afters to date (which you can see here) and the customer holds an extra special place in our hearts! Rachel Kabukala, who has sort of become our house photographer!, was over there taking pictures the other day. We can’t wait to show you the finished products! Until that time, here are a few behind the scenes shots…

This house is so beautiful, and the colors make it so photogenic! We’ll post the finished pictures as soon as we can! Have a fabulous Wednesday!

Elizabeth Gullett

SummerHouse designer Elizabeth Gullett recently finished a project in Santa Rosa, Florida that we are all in love with! See what Elizabeth has to say about the challenges that the project presented and how she overcame those challenges. And check out these gorgeous photos!

I must say that this Santa Rosa Beach, Florida carriage house has been one of my most favorite projects yet. Not only was the location divine -with its ocean views, private pool and private beach access- but the client and I shared a unity of vision that made this project go incredibly smoothly!¬†Right off the bat, Kay and I knew we were going to work great together. She’s as enthusiastic as I am, and there was so much to be excited about!

BEACH HOUSE BY ELIZABETH GULLETT // SUMMERHOUSE

The Challenge: 1) To create a relaxing environment that was livable, fresh, and interesting, while easily accommodating guests ranging from grand-kids to business associates.¬†One of the main issues¬†we had to consider was the fact that this would be where Kay’s kids and grandkids stayed when they came to visit. So everything needed to be super durable, easy to clean, and all around super family friendly, with as much sleeping room as possible. 2) The carriage house needed to have a “chic” element about it as well, because (very fortunate) business associates and clients would be staying here occasionally. 3)¬†The furnishings should¬†direct attention outside toward the amazing views, and not steal it from them. 4) The carriage house should also flow smoothly from the main house (they are attached), and yet stand on it’s own two design feet.

The Solution: 1) This was accomplished with heavy duty fabric on a sleeper sofa, cleanable slipcovers on the chairs, and a darker wool rug downstairs. Wool is naturally stain-resistant, and the darker color makes it even more kid-friendly. The bar stools are made of a heavy-duty grey washed rattan Рjust wipe them clean!  2) A variety of carefully mixed finishes and washes brings an eclectic, yet sophisticated flair to the different case pieces in the house. The accessories-from classic, thick coffee table books to white coral on acrylic bases-add another layer of chic. The furniture is more rustic, while the accessories are more classic and elegant. 3) Furniture was arranged with each spectacular view as the focal point; every seat gets a good sightline to the ocean! 4)  I chose a palette of crisp white, soothing greens and fresh blues- a classic beach palette, done in a slightly unexpected, dressier way. The blue was pulled from the main house, bringing a sense of cohesiveness.

“Not only was the location divine -with its ocean views, private pool and private beach access- but the client and I shared a unity of vision that made this project go incredibly smoothly!”

“A variety of carefully mixed finishes and washes brings an eclectic, yet sophisticated flair to the different case pieces in the house.”

The words we both kept using to describe the feeling we wanted for the house was “Non-beachy, beachy.” Sounds silly, but it fit. Clean, relaxed, sophisticated, and fresh, but with no wicker or “coastal” furniture to be found anywhere…a “different” type of beach house. Kay pretty much gave me free rein in the fabric and furnishing selection, and after the initial presentation didn’t change a thing. It was so affirming that she not only loved, but trusted, the entire vision!

Like I said, one of my most favorite projects yet. ūüôā

GREAT JOB, ELIZABETH!

The Beauty of Black and White

Black and white is quite possibly the most timeless color combo of all time. In middle school art class, many of us learned that black is the absence of all color, and white is the presence of all color. They always say “opposites attract,” so that must be why this combination has so perfectly stood the test of time! Here are some rooms featuring the two tones that we find so captivating… Take a peek.

“The Coolest Media Room on Earth!”

Have you seen the most recent issue of Delta Magazine?! It just hit stands last week and we are loving it! We particularly love the post entitled “The Coolest Media Room on Earth! OMG!” One of our favorite families, the Blanchard family, showed off their amazing media and exercise room. ¬†It truly is one of the coolest we’ve ever seen! Lisa did a great job of making the space modern, yet liveable, don’t you think?

What is your favorite part about this room? We love the color, the huge Dr. Pitt sectional (by Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams), the Kelly Wearstler inspired bookshelf, all the Adler, the big lacquer mirrors in the exercise area…. Really, there is nothing about this room that we don’t love!

Be sure to pick up your copy of the May/June issue of Delta at pretty much any bookstore around here! It’s a great issue!

In their own words, this collection is “a combination of luxuriously quiet and surprisingly dramatic neutral patterns and textures.” ¬†Now if THAT doesn’t scream SummerHouse, we don’t know what does!! Montauban Stripe Nickel/Greige
Chinon Silk Weave

Behind the Scenes: Portico Photo Shoot

This morning we had so much fun with the ladies who are compiling the story for the next issue of Portico Jackson Magazine! Amanda Wells, a local journalist, and Daphne Nabors, local photographer, met us at our customers’ home to chat about design!¬† Portico contacted us a couple of weeks ago requesting a green room to run in their March issue, so this is the first one that popped into mind!¬† Then we started thinking…. “Do they mean eco-friendly green or the color green?”¬† They did indeed mean the COLOR green, so we knew we had the perfect project for them to showcase!¬† As Daphe worked her magic behind the lens, Amanda talked to Lisa and the homeowner about the purpose and concept behind the beautiful design.¬† Here is a peek behind the scenes of the photo shoot.¬† We can’t wait to see the finished project! ūüôā

The art above the Clifton sectional is by Trevor, one of the many talented artists represented at View Gallery.  His color palette and style are always so much fun!

All of the fabrics you see here (minus the Adler throw) can be easily spot cleaned with soap and water.¬† How perfect for a kids’ hangout room, right?!

Such a fun color scheme! This makes us want to be a kid all over again…

The orange Mottega lamp adds so much to the space.

Fun Jonathan Adler accessories and books accent the whole room!

This entertainment console (and the bookshelf, not pictured) are from a very cool and modern company called Blu Dot.  They make some great looking furniture!

Lines We Love: Serena and Lily

Serena and Lily, a line that started out solely with bedding,¬†began in 2003¬†with creative minds¬†Serena Dugan and Lily Kanter.¬† Serena had a background in fabrics, Lily a background in baby-focused retail.¬† After they collaborated and¬†launched their initial baby/child bedding line, they saw such great¬†success that they decided to branch into “grown up” bedding.¬† The next step was furniture and accessories!¬† They continually evolve and add, keeping things interesting for those of us who follow their every move.¬† Here are just a few of the things these ladies have created.¬† Hopefully it will be easy for you to see why we love Serena and Lily so!

Speechless

Have any of you heard of Rue Magazine?¬† We had not until yesterday but… WOW… We were left completely speechless! Rue Magazine¬†(www.ruemag.com) is an online magazine, very similar to our beloved LonnyMag (www.lonnymag.com).¬† It is paperless so it can be thumbed¬†through with the click of a mouse, without having to take up any room on your counter! Rue is a little different from Lonny in that it seems to have more dark European insiriation mixed in.¬† It is all very beautiful and outside the box!¬† Here are a few of their many beautiful pages. What do you think?

Rue is only in its second issue, so we eagerly anticipate their coming issues!
