A Chat with Artist Charlotte Terrell

Art by Charlotte Terrell at SummerHouse in Ridgeland, MS

Happy almost weekend, friends! I hope you’ve had a great week so far. It was my recent honor to get to chat with new-to-SummerHouse artist Charlotte Terrell about her work and how art has become a part of her life! She was so gracious to share a little bit of her time with us to enlighten us and give us a glimpse behind her lovely work! I hope you enjoy this little chat as much as I did 🙂

LD: Tell us a little about yourself to help us get to know you! Where you’re from, about your family… all that kind of stuff.

CT: I was born and raised in Mississippi in the historic town of Columbus. I was an a great admirer of our handsome pre-civil war homes and gardens, especially Waverly Plantation from which I am direct descendant. There was not much art available to inspire me as a child, but I was enthralled by the multitude of amazing hand painted finishes that adorned Waverly in faux bois and marble. Perhaps this was a foreshadowing of the work I would do a decorative painter and muralist one day?

How long have you been painting?

I was always painting and drawing. As a teen, I turned a walk-in closet to my “studio.” Growing up I took art classes. After high school, I was fortunate to spend a summer in NYC painting at Parsons. My UGA landscape architecture degree required art studies, as well.

Can you tell us about the first painting you sold?

Though I was a professional decorative painter, I had not really painted in fine art in decades. A friend asked me to turn one of my decorative painted finishes in plaster and oils to something on canvas: my first mixed media painting. That was 2008 or so. These paintings caught the eye of a gallery and I was encouraged to do more of these mixed media works. Their exact words were “I think you got something here.” It was thrilling to say the least.

How do you stay inspired? Or what is your go-to source for inspiration?

My love of 19th century landscapes is a never ending source of inspiration. I literally use my eye as landscape designer to to envision these ephemeral landscapes, placing a tree or creating a distant view as I paint.

What would you say sets your work apart?

My technique using polished plaster and layers of oils and oil glazes to create these atmospheric, dream like paintings makes my work so identifiable.

What else do we need to know about you and your work?

I practiced as a landscape architect for NYC parks for fifteen years, while developing my skills as a muralist and decorative painter. These two passions have merged magically into my artwork. I am both fortunate and grateful to be doing this as a professional full time painter, something I would never have envisioned for myself. Yet, it is like a hand in a glove.

/ / / / / / / / / / \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \

Charlotte, thank you so much for your time!

I hope you enjoyed getting to know about Charlotte’s background as much as I did. Her work is truly stunning! Stop into SummerHouse Ridgeland to see these works in person. You’ll be blown away!

As always, thanks so much for stopping in today. It’s always nice to have your company 🙂 XO! Laurel

Update at Arco

Arco Avenue in Ridgeland, MS // Interior Design by Elish Moon

Today I wanted to share some photos of the freshly updated Arco Avenue with you and I am particularly excited about it for multiple reasons!

(1) The owner of Arco Avenue is my sister-in-law Katie! 🙂 She’s the cutest!

(2) Arco Avenue is one of my top five most favorite stores in all of the world. I have large feet and they special order shoes for me and I just love them! (They also have normal size shoes for those of you with normal feet!)

(3) I got to take these pictures, giving me the opportunity to hone my skillz with my semi new camera!

(4) Elish is a design wizard and she and Katie work so well together that it’s truly magical (hence my use of the word wizard.) Side note: Elish helped Katie several years back when Arco underwent a pretty huge facelift, so this Arco update is a piggyback update on what they did together about five years ago!

Let’s get on with some pictures (you can check out the updated project page on our design site here!) then I’ll let Elish give you a little more insight into the design!

I asked Elish to tell us a bit about the behind-the-design-scenes and I love what she had to share!

“Katie, the owner of Arco Avenue (and its cute neighbor Row 10), came into Summerhouse one day and pointed out a fun lounger on our floor and said she’d love to use something like it to incorporate more seating into Arco. Katie’s ideas for her store are always on point, from a design direction and from a retail perspective. She’s consistent in what she’s drawn to and it’s always a piece that is also investing in the draw of Arco Avenue, so thankfully I never have to second guess anything on that front.”

“She fell in love with a gorgeous white sherpa material that actually happened to be durable and easy to clean! As I worked on incorporating the loungers into the layout, we realized we needed to do a bit of rearranging, and update the rug to fit our new configuration. I also suggested adding two potted fiddle leaf figs. It fit the aesthetic of her store and also livened up the space and brings the outside in with some greenery.”

“These new updates went hand in hand with a mini in store makeover with added shelving and display space to celebrate Arco’s eight year anniversary. Katie is truly the best to work with and I’m proud to say I get a front row seat as she grows her business and continues make it more and more successful!”

And that’s a wrap! Kudos to Katie for her fantastic vision, Elish for expanding and executing the design vision, and YOU for reading!

I hope you have a fantastic day today. Thanks so much for stopping by! And if you are in need of new shoes, please be sure to check out Arco Avenue. They have a great online shop and ship for free.

Kimberly Moore Art

Kimberly Moore Art at SummerHouse

I am thrilled to share with you that we are now carrying the art of a fabulously talented artist, Kimberly Moore! All of us up here love her style and her eye, and we are honored to have her work adorning our Ridgeland showroom.

Let’s get to know Kimberly a bit better together, shall we?!

Laurel: Can you give us an overview of Kimberly in a nutshell! 🙂

Kimberly: I am married and have 3 children and a new grandchild! I grew up in South Florida, lived 18 years in Atlanta in my early 20s, then moved back to South Florida where I am now.

Laurel: Beautiful! South Florida is so pretty. So how would you describe your artistic style?

Kimberly: I would describe my style as abstract expressionism. I am heavily influenced by ancient Greek and Roman civilization and painters from the 1940s and 1950s.

Laurel: How cool! Now, I know from reading your About page that you draw from life experiences when you’re crafting your art. Can you tell us about a specific life experience and how it inspired a specific piece?

Kimberly: Sure! One of my favorite paintings came as a result of the impression left on me after I visited Pompeii. It was a profound experience for me and I find that images and markings rise to the surface of my conscience as I am painting based on such experiences.

Laurel: Very neat. I love that! I also read that you are open to doing commissioned pieces. Can you tell us about one of the most unique or commission requests you’ve ever received?!

Kimberly: I received a commission from a wonderful couple, one an interior designer and the other a graphic designer. Throughout the commission process I would send previews which they would critique with such incredible depth and understanding that they actually gave me a beautiful gift in allowing me to view and see my work in an objective way. I will be forever grateful to Keith and Jason!

Laurel: What a lovely way of viewing such process! I love that attitude, and I know you learned so much. Now let’s move on to how you finish these pieces… I notice that many of the frames used on your collage and ink pieces (and possibly some of your larger abstracts?!) appear to be vintage or found. Can you tell us about the significance of your framing?

Kimberly: I spend early weekend mornings scouring Estate Sales and Flea Markets looking for vintage frames. It is a leftover habit from my antiquing days. I have never lost the thrill of the hunt! I let the frame dictate the style of art I think is appropriate.

Laurel: Well they are perfect and just give an extra element of uniqueness to your work. Now, what else do we need to know about Kimberly Moore Art? 🙂

Kimberly: I spent the majority of my career in the Antique business and also was an Appraiser of Antiques and Vintage Goods which has definitely honed by eye. I am OBSESSED with Interior Design! I painted as long as I can remember but always for myself. I had been regularly doing the Scott Antique Show in Atlanta and my husband encouraged me to put a few of my paintings out for sale. I was so unsure of myself in the beginning that I signed my work ‘Lillian Howell’ which is my Grandmothers maiden name. (She is 97 and was thrilled to be known as an “artist”). My art was purchased by a number of very well known designers so I was encouraged to keep painting. I am so thrilled that people seem drawn to my art and now I paint full time (and sign my own name!)

Laurel: As you should! It’s absolutely stunning. I hope to have a piece of my own one of these days! 🙂 Well, I think that about wraps us up here. Thank you so much for your time, Kimberly. We love your work!!

MAYMOD: A Runway Event

Exciting announcement: MAYMOD tickets are now available for purchase!

General Admission tickets are $20 if you purchase now, or $25 if you wait until the day of the event. VIP reserved-seating tickets are $120 and are only available for purchase before the show! The first 25 VIP ticket purchasers will receive some pretty amazing SWAG BAGS that our friend Gareth at Noggins is working hard to assemble. You’ll definitely want one 😉

{{{ Not sure what MAYMOD is? Click here! }}}

The value of the reserved seat, even if you don’t get in on a swag bag, is that you’ll have a place to sit right next to the runway! We’ll put your name on a chair and nobody but you will be able to sit there. You’ll have the best view of the show. You’ll be able to get the best shots of all the action. AND, the money we raise is going to Magnolia Speech School, so of course it’s for a great cause!

Hop on over to www.maymodevent.com to purchase your tickets. We are getting so excited about all the #maymodness!

Save The Date for MAY MOD

MAYMOD Runway Event

MAYMOD Runway Event

MAYMOD Runway Event

MAYMOD Runway Event

MAYMOD Runway Event

I. AM. SO. EXCITED.

Do y’all remember that killer fashion show we put on last year with our friends at Noggins Salon? The above pictures may help. 😉 It was A Midsummer Night’s Runway Event with all the glittery, fairy-esque goodness we could squeeze through our doors. Well, we are back for round two, and it’s going to be even cooler than it was last year (if that is even possible! Because if you were here, you remember how amazing it was. Such a fun night!) Our theme this time is MAY MOD. We’re going all modern in the month of May and the ideas we have circulating are simply great.

I think the reason I’m most excited about this event is because it’s benefiting Magnolia Speech School. MSS has become very dear to my heart because my third baby, sweet little mister Dempsey Donahoo (picture of his happy face here!), was born in November with complete deafness. He has profound bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, so my husband and I have started the process to get our baby hearing and speaking, and a major player in Dempsey’s journey has been (and will continue to be) Magnolia Speech School. We’ve begun early intervention therapy with MSS and we adore our interventionist. He is a doll and is a fabulous representative for this school that is doing so much to help the hearing impaired kiddos around our area!

We have a lot of moving parts and a few more details we are trying to nail down before we can present the full lineup of shops participating in the show, but for now…

SAVE THE DATE! Thursday, May 9th at SummerHouse in Ridgeland. 7 til 9 p.m.  Fashion for the whole family!

Tickets will be available for online purchase once we get that set up. They’ll be $20 for general admission or $120 for admission plus a reserved, runway-side seat. Also, two words: SWAG BAGS. But more on all that later!

MAYMOD Runway Event

Make sure you’re following SummerHouse on Instagram to stay well updated on everything regarding #MayModness (<< our official event hashtag.) We hope you’ll make plans to attend!

As always, thank you for checking in today. I hope your week is going smoothly so far! 🙂

A Local Love Affair with Leontine Linens

A Local Love Affair with Leontine Linens // Lee Loves Local party at SummerHouse

Hi, friend 🙂 How are ya?

We’ve got some pretty gross weather in Mississippi this week (and sadly I think it’s supposed to stay gross through Saturday) but to reverse those blues that the weather is trying to dish out, I have some pretty pictures to share with you!

Both SummerHouse locations celebrated #LeeLovesLocal week last week with some lovely parties. I didn’t get to make it to the Oxford party, but I’ve heard reports that it was nothing short of perfect! The Ridgeland party, too, was basically perfect. We had the most stunning bedding and table linens of all time gracing our showroom floor. Leontine Linens, you are one amazing company!

Here’s a pictorial recap of our Ridgeland par-tay

Are you as taken with Leontine as we are?

Meet Brandon

Hey, friends. How was your weekend? I had a great one celebrating my little girl’s third birthday (you can see my little b-day princess here!) and spending some time outside enjoying the pretty weather! I hope yours was equally as enjoyable! How bout those Patriots in the most boring Super Bowl ever? 😉 Ha! I’ll admit it– I’m totally here for the commercials and for the halftime show. No shame!

Brandon at SummerHouse Oxford So today, I want to introduce all of you to the newest face at SummerHouse Oxford! Meet Brandon Stafford. 🙂 Brandon is a precious soul who I have loved working alongside (via text) 😉 keeping up the social media and marketing! This guy is so smart and kind, and is doing an awesome job with SHOX’s instagram! (Check it out here)

Let’s get to my Q&A with him, shall we?

Start off by telling us a little about you!

I’m from Tupelo, MS and I went to Tupelo Christian Preparatory School. I graduated from Ole Miss in 2018 with a BS in Integrated Marketing Communications. My family has a farm and we grow/raise soybeans, corn and cattle.

How did you become interested in the design world?

I love drawing and playing with colors, so that’s what made me interesed in interior design. Also, I love coffee table books about interior design. I love seeing designers express their creatitvity.

Where (other than SummerHouse, of course!) do you find yourself most inspired when it comes to design?

There is a building in New York that inspires me every time I look at it and I find myself googling it all the time. 432 Park Ave. Its otherwise known as the tallest residential building in the western hemisphere. Because it’s a newer building, the building is controversial to many New Yorkers. Some people call it an eyesore because of the way it sticks out of the skyline. I think its beautiful and I love its large windows. I’ve watched so many videos about it and the views are incredible.  Also I previously worked as a florist and I love playing with design in that capacity.

Do you prefer the beach or the mountains? Why?

Beach or moutains? I prefer a beach that has mountains and my favorite beach is in Monteceito, California.

What’s your favorite local restaurant or bar and why?

My favorite restaurant in Oxford is Saint Leo because it reminds me of New York. The chefs are attentive to changing the menu often which means you can usually try something new. My favorite bar is the Summit balcony in the summer. Theres not better place to be.

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

If I could travel anywhere in the world, it would be Africa. I would love to see the landscape and to ride an elephant.

What is your favorite way to spend a weekend off?

My favorite way to spend my weekend off is with friends at the Summit balcony 🙂 or at any roof top bar for that matter.

What’s a little known fact about you that we might be interested to hear?!

One of my guilty pleasures is watching documentaries about cults. They are creepy and I have no desire to be in one in case you were worried. 😉 I just find them intreguing and scary.

What else do we need to know about Brandon? 🙂

I love to be helpful and feel that I’ve accomplished something. I love laughing and having fun and I love my goldendoodle, Sadie. I’m hoping to make BYODTW Day a thing. (Bring your own dog to work day)

/ / / / / / / / / /

Thank you Brandon! I fully agree on the BYODTW Day! And I cannot wait to google 432 Park Ave.

Y’all be sure to stop into our Oxford shop next time you’re close and meet Brandon! He really is such a joy.
Thanks for dropping by Always Summer today. Hope your Monday is the best Monday possible! XO!!

A Local Love Affair with Leontine Linens

A Local Love Affair with Leontine Linens

So I told y’all about our upcoming Local Love Affair in Oxford happening February 9th HERE, but now’s the time to give y’all the info on our Ridgeland Local Love Affair on February 12th! As a reminder, this is all part of Lee Loves Local week. No, Lee is not a person, but a company! LEE Industries is an American-made upholstery company that loves their local community so much that they wanted to spread that brand of love all over the country, hence these fun events during a designated week every year! So if you live too far away to come to one of our Lee Loves Local events, try to find a LEE dealer near you and attend their event!

For our Ridgeland shop’s love affair, we’re teaming up with one of our favorite brands: Leontine Linens. This beautiful, locally owned brand out of New Orleans is coming up for a pop-up shop on Tuesday the 12th. If you haven’t seen their custom bedding and linens, you have GOT to come! They’re stunning, and all custom made, so you can make them look however you want! From 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., we will be giving away fantastic door prizes from local friend businesses, serving up bubbly and yummy little desserts, and oohing and aahing over the pretty Leontine pieces. Leontine will even do some live demonstrations at 4:30 and at 7:00 teaching us how to make the prettiest beds and set the prettiest tables. We can’t wait!

Here are some of my favorite looks created with Leontine pieces so you can get an idea of what you’ll see at this pop-up. Be sure to check out their instagram for more pretty pics (and to see who the original designers are on these spaces!)

I’m drooling. I love the range that Leontine covers! You can go a little more modern, or you can do super traditional, or land somewhere in the middle. And it’s all gorgeous! [ insert the heart eyes ]

Don’t forget that, just like at the Oxford event, we will offer 25% off all LEE items as well as off most of what we have in stock, even if it isn’t LEE. AND, enjoy 20% off custom LEE orders placed during Lee Loves Local week!

Kitchen Renovation: Before & After

Before and After: A kitchen renovation by Interior Designer Katy Hines

Hey, y’all! I hope your week is off to a fantastic start! Mine sure is, due in large part to this blog post! I spent part of the day editing these photos and they just make me so happy. SummerHouse Designer Katy Sanders did a beautiful job renovating this kitchen for some clients and the results are just astounding!

Here’s what Katy was working with:

Before and After: A kitchen renovation by Interior Designer Katy Hines

This kitchen had not been updated since this house was built almost 20 years ago. The clients were open to doing whatever needed to be done to fully update it, so as you can see in the above photo, Katy fully gutted it. They moved the gas line so the cook top could go in between the windows to create a focal point. Before, there had not really been a nice place for the eye to fall, so moving that, adding the vent-a-hood, and running the backsplash all the way up to the ceiling created just that!

Before and After: A kitchen renovation by Interior Designer Katy Sanders

The island was a bit dated, so Katy straightened that up and got it looking extra fab with some cleaner lines and cute barstools. She redid all the lighting, redesigned all the cabinetry, and added wood flooring throughout to create a little warmth. She selected those beautiful Quartzite countertops and proved that mixing metal finishes can be beautiful when done correctly (ahem, like when you hire a SummerHouse designer!)

Because paint colors are always such a hot topic, I’ll go ahead and answer the question that I know many of you have in your head (because I asked it in my head, too!) Benjamin Moore Hale Navy on the paint color Katy used on the island 😉

Before and After: A kitchen renovation by Interior Designer Katy Sanders

Before and After: A kitchen renovation by Interior Designer Katy Sanders

Before and After: A kitchen renovation by Interior Designer Katy Sanders

Before and After: A kitchen renovation by Interior Designer Katy Sanders

After Katy’s magic touch, this kitchen functions better, has been brought into the current decade, and is so stunning that it made its way onto a design blog! 😉 Beautiful work, Katy Sanders. You never cease to amaze us.

Thanks so much for stopping by Always Summer! Stay warm out there 🙂

A Local Love Affair in Oxford

A LOCAL LOVE AFFAIR

Hey y’all! We have been quite energized over here at the SummerHouse (at both locations) because Lee Loves Local festivities are gearing up! We are hosting two separate events: One at our Ridgeland store, and one at our Oxford store! Today, I want to give y’all a little info about the Oxford event. More details about the Ridgeland event coming soon!

So first off, let’s talk about exactly what Lee Loves Local even is! I commonly hear the question, “Who is Lee?” Well, Lee is not actually a human. Lee is a company! One of our favorite upholstery brands, to be more specific! Lee Industries is a fabulous, American-made line of upholstery based in North Carolina and this company loves their local community so well. They are plugged in and very invested into the local culture of their community. This local love gives them so much energy and positivity that they wanted all of their dealers’ local communities to experience that same love and energy, hence the implementation of LEE LOVES LOCAL week. For one week every February, Lee dealers all over the country partner up with other local vendors to put on cool events. Since February is the month of love, it just seemed natural 😉

You can see more about our past Lee Loves Local events HERE!

So our LEE LOVES LOCAL events this year are entitled “A Local Love Affair.” Our Oxford love affair, happening on Saturday, February 9th, involves artist Chelsea Fly, a really cool garden shop called The Oil Shed, and a wildly talented cookie creator Sarah Hutto from The Cookie Canvas of Mississippi. (I linked each of their Instagrams– please go follow each! You’ll fall in love, I promise!) Each of these three vendors will have a booth set up in our Oxford store selling small pieces of art, cool succulent and floral arrangements, and beautiful cookies, respectively. We’ll have light bites, cocktails, live music, the whole nine. It’s going to be really fun! Oh, and most of the store will be 25% off, plus 20% off on Lee special orders! This is BIG!

Here’s an idea of what these fab companies will have for you on the 9th!

I’m personally EXTREMELY obsessed with those Valentine piñata cookies that break open and reveal sprinkles! How freaking cute is that?! And of course, I’ve been a long time fan of Miss Chelsea Fly’s gorgeous work. And who doesn’t love a fresh floral or succulent arrangement in a non-cheesy valentine-y container?! Newness

Hey y’all, and happy Monday! After a two month maternity leave getting in all the snuggles with my new little dude (who we named Dempsey — he is amazing!), I’m back in the saddle up here at SummerHouse! When I walked into work this morning, the whole showroom looked brand new to me since I haven’t been here in, well, two months! I walked around picking out new favorites and just thinking (remembering) how refreshing that SummerHouse style is 🙂 Here are a few shots of pretty happenings on the showroom that I highly recommend you come and look at for yourself!

Isn’t it all so beautiful!? I’m sure you can see why I’m glad to be back, despite the fact that I boo-hooed when I dropped Dempsey off at day care for his first day today! Thankfully his teachers tell me he’s having a great first day 🙂

I hope each of you had a fantastic holiday season and are gearing up to have a wonderful 2019! Thank y’all for reading today– you’re awesome!

XO, Laurel

A Few Quick Before And Afters

Before and After by SummerHouse Interior Design

Is there anyone out there who doesn’t love a good before and after? If you exist, I don’t believe I’ve ever met anyone like you before! (I’m sure you’re fascinating…  We should chat sometime!)

There is just something about a before and after comparison that makes you appreciate so much about good design. And even more than good design, I appreciate the vision that a trained designer has! There are several B&As out there where I think, “Wow, how did the designer of this space even know to go that direction?” Like truly. Walls moved, lighting completely changed up, seating areas put in entirely different spaces… It’s just fascinating!

Here are several examples of incredible BEFORE & AFTER situations, all by SummerHouse designers! Take it all in with me, won’t ya?

Designer on the below project: Katherine Shelton, who is sadly no longer with us 🙁 We miss her so much already, but are excited for her new direction. Her assistant on this project, Jordan Carter, is now a designer herself! Jordan had a heavy hand in this project.

Lisa in Milieu Magazine

Mississippi Pearl in Milieu Magazine

Hey y’all! Laurel here from maternity leave! (Fun fact: I’m actually composing this post on October 22. Isn’t scheduling just the coolest thing ever?)

So one thing we haven’t touched on enough on this blog is Lisa’s appearance in Milieu Magazine several months ago! We did mention it to you here, but there was only so much we could say about it (and only so much of the content we could share) while it was still on stands. Lisa was really happy with how everything turned out, and of course all of us – her adoring staff – just could not have been prouder! The photos by Peter Vitale, the copy by Zachary Wilson, styling by Leslie Newsom with a hand from Marty and Lisa… It just all turned out SO well!

This cabin is co-owned by Lisa’s SummerHouse co-owners, so this project is super close to home. I was actually Lisa’s fill-in assistant for a portion of this project, so I grew to know and love this home and this process personally. I remember frequent drives out to the site and watching the sweetest litter of puppies at one of the houses that we always passed grow up little by little every few weeks! So fun 🙂 Also! Take note of the black and white square ottomans that are around the round outdoor table as you’re looking at the pictures… I fell so in love with those that I bought them myself! So I have literally a little piece (two, rather!) of this project in my own home. I look lovingly at them every single day! 😉

Anyway, I hope you love this project as much as we do. It’s a beauty with so much great detail and so many very thoughtful decisions. If you haven’t landed a physical copy of this issue, I highly recommend it so you can read about Lisa’s take on all the special details.

I hope you’re having a lovely holiday season!

XO!  Laurel

Meet Sarah Ethridge

Today, I am so excited to introduce y’all to new(ish) Ridgeland team member Sarah Ethridge! Sarah has been with us for several months now and is such a huge help wherever she is needed. We LOVE this girl! If you stop in, you might find her updating our inventory book, helping a designer on a home visit, putting something in CAD, accessorizing the showroom floor, checking in new fabrics, and so many other things! Needless to say, things flow much more smoothly now that Sarah is part of the team 🙂 Get to know this cutie better with a fun Q&A! Meet SummerHouse employee Sarah Ethridge

Can you tell us a little about you? Where you’re from, where you’re in school, what you’re studying, about your family…

I am from Brandon (on the Rez side) and I have lived there my whole life. I graduated from Northwest Rankin High school. I am in school at Mississippi College and I have one year left. I am majoring in Interior Design and have a minor in business. My parents are still in Brandon and I have a sister who is 2 years older than me who has a degree in Graphic Design from Mississippi College. I also have a cat named Carmen that I am very obsessed with.

What’s your favorite local restaurant?

My favorite local restaurant is Saltine. I like it because I can always try something different that I have never had before and no matter what I get there it is always good. (I also get a discount when I eat there because I work at Amerigo and they are owned by the same people, so that is a bonus.)

Is there a particular piece on the showroom floor right now that you’re particularly loving? What do you love about it?

My favorite piece on the showroom floor is the black and gold mirror in the room to the left when you walk in the front door. I just love how simple and classic it looks and its shape makes it look even more beautiful.

7What’s your favorite source of design/style inspiration?

Whenever I am surrounded by creative spaces I feel more imaginative and inspired. Being somewhere new can help whenever you are trying to find some inspiration. Sometimes nature can inspire me and sometimes being in a city can inspire me. I typically get the most inspiration from being in a city environment because there are so many creative things already going on all around me.

How do you take your caffeine?

Every morning I have to have at least a cup of black coffee. I cannot function without having coffee. Sometimes in the middle of the day I will treat myself to a vanilla iced latte, but the majority of the time I just drink black coffee.

What’s the best movie you’ve seen lately and why did you love it?

The last movie I saw in theaters was Mamma Mia 2 and it was great. The scenery in the movie was amazing because it was set in Greece and I thought the costume design was great. This is the kind of movie that makes you want to drop all of your responsibilities and travel the world.

What’s a little known fact about you that makes you different?

Last semester my school did a study abroad program that I got to be a part of, so I got to study in London for a little over 3 months. I really learned a lot about their culture and got to experience so many new things. I also did a lot of traveling while I was over there. I got to go to Scotland, Ireland, Belgium, and Italy, as well as different towns throughout England. It was the best time of my life and I am very grateful that I got to be a part of it because not everyone gets an opportunity like that.

What is your favorite thing to do on a weekend off?

If I ever have a weekend off I am usually traveling somewhere. I might go to visit family or travel somewhere new. Sometimes I will even just go somewhere for the day just to get away and clear my mind.

/ / / / / / / / / /

Thank you so much, Sarah! You are one amazing and inspiring girl, you know it? Thanks for letting us get to know you in a cool new way 🙂

I hope ALL of you get to meet Sarah soon! She’s the cutest.

Y’all have a great week! XOXO from maternity leave,

Laurel 🙂

Our Designers’ Favorite Whites

Paint colors are hard. That is no secret at all! That’s why it’s so important to get a designer in on your paint color decision. You do not want to be going through the trouble of painting a room just to have to repaint it a few days later because it looks terrible! Let one of our talented designers save you a re-do by helping you pick a great color on the front end, okay?? Trust me on this one.

Now that we have that out of the way, I did poll our staff to see which white paint colors seem to work well for them most frequently. We got some great answers from everyone, so allow me to share! I personally love a white room so this post was really fun for me to put together. After we wrap up a little construction on my home, I’m sure I’ll get one of our awesome designers out to help me pick a great white to paint our new little addition! Stay tuned! 😉

“Ben Moore White Dove is a favorite of mine. I have used it in several projects and it always has beautiful consistency in different types of lighting.” Lindsey Townsend, Interior Designer

“Sherwin Williams White Duck has been my go to for a good while. I love it so much my own house is White Duck – walls, ceilings and trim!” Jenni Hilbun, Interior Designer

“Ben Moore Glacier White is so pretty. It’s warm, with a little hint of gray, and helps create a very cozy and inviting white room! We painted my little boy’s room this color and his room is one of my favorites in our home.” – Me, Laurel Donahoo, Social Media Manager (and former Interior Design Assistant!)

So there you have it. A roundup of beautiful white paint colors! I hope you find yourself inspired. Sometimes the only update a room needs is a fresh coat of paint. Why not treat yourself for Christmas with a little wall refresh? (But don’t forget– consult a designer first if you are even the teeniest bit unsure about paint colors!)

XOXO from maternity leave,
Laurel
