SummerHouse designer Elizabeth Gullett recently completed a project in Madison that we’re all crazy about! This project, which we’ve dubbed “The Highlands Home,” is approachably elegant, light-filled, and comfortable all at the same time.
As we were talking with Elizabeth about the project, (more specifically, the living room) she gave us an idea of what the client wanted, and how she was able to create just what was asked of her… with serious style!
“These clients like to entertain. They wanted this space to be just as good for kids playing Wii as it is for adult parties. It needed to be elegant enough for a living room but still approachable and relaxed enough to serve as the family room. The homeowner used to be in catering, so throwing parties in is her blood. We needed to be sure to have lots of seating for lots of guests.”
“We established the feeling the client wanted, then I got to run with the design… I was given much freedom!”
“I love the mix of rich textures… Yummy velvet and embroidered linen pillows, and the antique Oushak rug, mixed with more casual materials -the jute lamp shades, chunky linen upholstery- gives the room a look that flows easily from everyday family life to party time.”
“To quote my client, “I feel like I’m on vacation when I’m at my house now…even my friends say it’s so peaceful. I don’t ever want to leave!!” That’s what I like to hear!”
